Abitibi - Octave River

Stratigraphic frameworkFor a second year, Poly-Géo has been appointed by the Geological Survey of Canada, to participate as a Quaternary geology expert, to the Octave River Project, in Abitibi.

This project is derived from a partnership between the Quebec MRNF's Copper Plan and the Geological Survey of Canada's Targeted Geoscience Initiative (TGI-3).

This project is a new type of drill-hole survey that combines the study of Quaternary deposits with sampling of the basement rock in the outcrop-poor areas of the northern part of the Abitibi region. The primary objective is to establish the provenance of the various till layers present by characterizing their geochemical, mineralogical and lithological composition. For each drill hole, the plan is therefore to characterize the stratigraphy, the geochemistry of the fine fraction (< 63 µm), the heavy mineralogy of the sand fraction and the assemblage of lithic fragments.

Poly-Géo has been appointed to interpret the Quaternary regional stratigraphic framework from the drilled boreholes.  Poly-Géo undertakes the stratigraphic descriptions of the drilled units as well as minute sampling of the sediments intersected through the drilling program.
