By studying aerial photographs and satellite images at different scales using 3D visualization software and mirror stereoscopes, we gain access to a broad spectrum of information on the physical environment, enabling us to:

  • Identify, delineate and characterize the surficial materials and landforms
  • Assess geohazards (erosion, flooding, etc.)
  • Optimize land use planning and infrastructure siting
  • Identify and characterize borrow sources
  • Plan field study programs
  • Identify natural features of outstanding value
  • Grasp the magnitude of the impact of gradual or catastrophic geological events, understand what caused them and predict how they will evolve
  • Document natural and anthropogenic changes in the landscape
  • Reconstruct land use history
